MetalDrive - So Heavy It’s Disturbing
The new EBS MetalDrive pedal is the latest addition to the companies growing Black Label Series, a series that also features the OctaBass, BassIQ, MultiDrive and four others.
It’s based on a customised pedal that EBS made for John Moyer, bassist for the American metal band Disturbed. Be warned, this is no pedal for the weak hearted so all you country and blues cats better keep your distance.
It promises high-gain distortion and that’s what you get, and you get it in truck loads. Playing a Warwick through an Ampeg, the MetalDrive gives me access to a huge amounts of full, fat, gloriouse distortion.
It’s built tough to handle a pounding, is compact and featuring a distortion and Output dial and a tri function switch between Standard, Flat and Tubeism which makes it easy to use.
I’d suggest it would be wise to keep your younger sister away because this beast will scare her and her boy-band loving friends half to death, that alone yet another plus for this pedal.
Personally I’m not all that familiar with John Moyer or Disturbed but this is one hell of a pedal and one that suits my distorted needs perfectly. I’d even go as far as to say that from this point on, the EBS MetalDrive will set the standard to which all Bass distortion pedals will now be judged.
